ONCE MORE..fail

SOOOO once again it happens...Is it cheating by the player? Or is it just the referee making the wrong call/missing the right call???

How can u as a player handle a ball like an Australian cricket fielder, and pass it to your team mate for a simple tap in, and then go and celebrate ? And feel good about what you just did? It happens, but i'm fed up of referees not being able to spot such crucial calls.
I think some reading know what i'm talking about...Thierry Henry handling the ball for France's crucial 2nd leg at home versus Ireland in the World Cup 2010 playoff qualifier. If there had been an official on the goal line, it would have been a simple call, and the goal would have been disallowed, or if the victim team could have challenged the call they could have gotten the call reversed.
It frustrates a lot of people when such events take place in such crucial games, Ireland now missing out on going to the WC. France did look the livelier side towards the end of a game where Ireland showed character and fighting spirit creating a few decent chances. But such a game (none in fact) should never be decided in these circumstances, it really shows how far ahead of football most other sports are.
I, for one, am losing fast interest in the sport, as they fail to find solutions to these problems.

In other news Russia had 2 red cards to see them lose to Slovenia and miss the world cup next summer, and Portugal had a 2-0 aggregate win over Bosnia to qualify.

Full WC2010 qualifying roundup to come !

  2. Absolutely shocking.I understand the magnitude of the game.World cup play off, tied on aggregate, inside Stade Velodrome. But I mean no one would even insult the linesman from the stands.....it was that blatant.Wanted Ireland to go through,I like their team chemistry. But who is to blame really?Henry? The referees?I blame FIFA.Referees are given baskets to carry water.Back in the 60's or earlier u never had the technology that could help, but U DO NOW!!!Give them help. All in all, poor call.

  3. Nope Henry didnt cheat..anyone who seh dem play ball and a ball hit them hand and them stop play is either a lier or a fool..who is to blame? the refs

As for using technology..if the refs are too dumb to follow simple rules now i dont want see no in game replays tekking up 15 hours ..wen refs can follow the simple rules then we can see about complicating things

  4. 1.i didnt state he was a cheat, i asked....i am just upset at how someone can celebrate after such an incident, like messi hand of god goal

    2. the refs should be given the tools to make the right calls...if his view is blocked u cant blame the ref

  5. lol and i was ansering sir

how does one celebrate after blatantly diving for a pen that changes a game? i think thats way worse than henry today

  6. it is way worse
    i agree
which is why replays shud be reviewed, during or after, to punish them appropriately

  7. its the refs yo..but ye they should have vieos..

  8. Basically sportsmanship is just plain dead...and football should have a 3rd party monitoring the game to overlook offences made by both players and refs.It may make time longer but atleast justice will be granted to the side that deserves it

  9. even tho i ask the question... i do agree he is a cheat, cuz he clearly handled the ball with intent

  10. Although i know it won't be changed, i personally think that in extreme situations like those...a WorldCup qualifying sudden death extra time match, certain things should be taken into consideration.

Even though im against video technology being a normal part of football, in a situation like this when one wrong, horrible misjudge causes a team grief for another 4years certain things should be taken into consderation. After 10secs of the incident it was shown that Henry handled it, probably came on the big screen TV also, the ref should be told to take back the goal and pens played or something.

It's different than most dives or so because of the importance. Even Chelsea-Barca's semis is more understandable, because as much calls that should have been made an argument could be made as to why the ref didnt call them. This was blatantly wrong, no ifs or buts.

I assure u Henry isnt proud, but hes damn well glad and more people are gonna start deceiving refs if they have the final say without help.

This is jusst like Maradona vs england's hand of God...except probably more obvious...so it's worse.

  11. "this is just like Maradona etc "= utter fart

no there was no replay on the big screen at the match

its different from dives , dives are much worse.

Henry isnt proud, he admits he handled the ball and it shud of been called. Ronaldo,Rooney,Drogba love to say they dont dive..

  14. becuz Maradonna intentionally scored with his hand while a ball bounce up on henry hand and he puts in a cross..i dont see any intent..and henry own wasnt obvious at all unlike Maradonna own which was beyond blatant

  15. it was a fix, even sky sports showed the linesman`s view by computer analyis and it was right in front of him,it should of gone to a replay to settel the matter but Fifa wont risk it,France fell over the line to S.A through a disgracefull goal that had 2 men offside in the first place and 2 handballs by a cheat who looked like he was playing for the Gaa,its an outrage we were by far the better team that lost out to fat cats,so much for the beautfiul game.

  16. get rid of FIFA .they have proved now once and for all that they are corrupt and can be bought

  17. Just imagine if France should world cup 2010.

  18. HOW COULD ANYBODY LOOK AT THAT CLIP FROM THE SIDE ANGLE AND SAY HENRY DIDNT CHEAT... DONT FOOL YOURSELVES JUST BECAUSE HES HENRY

  19. LOL
what goes around comes around for Ireland (Remember Georgia)...
and what goes around will come around for France I guess... so when France get knocked out by a blatantly offside goal, everyone will laugh..

99% of all footballers cheat... when you the ball goes out, and you appeal for throw-in/corner decisions when you know it came off you last... do you say anything when it goes your way? NO...
do you say anything when you get a foul for nothing? or score a goal from an offside position? NO...

Just because this led to a goal it causes an outrage... Robbie Keane HIMSELF handled the ball 4 times in the game, 1 of which was not penalised and he played on (as every footballer would do)..
if it had led to the goal would everyone be crying? Hypocrisy is pathetic... the rules will always be the same, and every player will try bend the rules to the maximum to try get their team the win.

  20. Video technology will NOT improve the game.. and the reasons are:
    1. Of course you'll start out with red card and penalty decisions etc... but where do you draw the line as to what needs a replay..

Example.. ManUtd vs Chelsea, Chels scored from a freekick that was never a freekick..would you check a replay after a seemingly innocuous decision? no... but then it led to a goal..

    2. the obvious answer to that is, you can have a certain number of challenges a match... but then you can still lose on a blatantly wrong call because "you ran out of challenges"

    3. the rules state the ref cannot change his decision after play has restarted, so the decision has to be made before the pen is taken or the opposition team has kicked off etc etc... so it will slow down the game epicly.
