The Dis-Respect Campaign

The Football Association launched the Respect campaign to combat the high number of ref's quitting the game, by discouraging abuse towards the ref by players, managers and fans.

What a pile of crap...

It really pisses me off that the FA seems to miss the point of why players etc abuse the officials, and it is because of this that I believe it’s a complete waste of time and money. No one is going to respect the officials when their team lost because of the officials. Its just not going to happen. Even if it wasn’t one clear decision that denied the win, if the officials are making mistakes, they aren’t going to get any respect.

And that’s how it should be! Why shouldn’t the manager say something? Why can’t the players argue their case? I don’t know about you, but I know when i’m playing ball and the ref denies me an obvious call, i’m pretty pissed off. Cheat me out of anything, and i’ll be pissed off!

So why not focus on raising the standard of officiating? The inconsistancy is unbelievable. Sometimes I see a yellow given at the beginning of a game for something, then nothing for it later in the game. Besides, its almost 2010, we have cars that can brake and steer us away from a collision, we have phones that can do everything our home computers can, hell, we even have a machine somewhere between france and switzaland that can, in theory, create a black hole right here on earth!!

Yet we can’t have an extra official watching a tv?

I just don’t get it. Phantom goals, blatant dives, off the ball violence, clearly onside offside calls, clear-as-the-blue-sky penalties denied, we have all seen some insane calls. So what has to happen to introduce technology into the game? My guess is if Barca loose the champions league final to Besiktas due to a phantom goal or a dive, Platini would be all over it.

Now im not saying that if we had technology in the game, there would be no more bad calls. But no one can deny there would be a lot less. And in these days when a game can have such massive importance, it is just not fair to be decided by incorrect decisions.

It seems there is an element of fear among the so called leaders of our football world. Maybe they are threatened that the good old days are fading too quickly, and are trying to hang onto the old ways. We all watch the games, and know it wont slow it down anymore than the players arguing already do. So what’s stopping it?

  1. refs have to be consistent, both with making good play calls, and by punishing those for dissent...or else its all pointless...for example...right at the beginning of the campaign mascherano was given a 2nd yellow for dissent and sent off against man utd...while fletcher this weekend against chelsea wasnt booked when he was cussing the ref a lot... even though fletcher was within reason to be upset and cuss off the ref...according to the respect campaign it should be a yellow....

the whole thing is pointles though if refs dont make the right decisions on the pitch in the first place....like today Ngog with the most obvious of dives, but cons the referee...the players have a right to be upset...but y shouldnt the ref be punished after the games for making wrong calls ?

  2. Well im against the introduction of video technology. I can see it resulting in every and any little thing being challenged.

What i really want is a CONSISTENT following of the rules. Dissent = Yellow Card, Dive = Yellow Card, Asking for a Yellow for an opponent = Yellow Card.

I think Refs should be punished depending on their performances

also in Italy is is not uncommon for a man to dive in a match and it go unnoticed and then after the match he get banned after the incident being reviewed. Id love this to be introduced

  3. yes the banning for dives shud def be introduced...
the challenge for every little thing.. in sports that hav a 'challenge' each teams is usually allowed 1 or 2 per game...

  4. dive = yellow? sorry but yellow cards will not stop diving. a player will still dive in the 89th minute of a match, collect his yellow card and score the winning penalty . the yellow card in that instance would have absolutely no effect. divers should get a 3 game suspension.. for me its no different than doping.

i see no problem with video technology with a challenge limit.. even if they wanna use it for decisions within the 18yd box only.. that cant possibly slow down the game. and i hear this talk about goal line referees, not a bad idea but the governing bodies wont budge. its simple, just implement a trial at some youth tournament and see how it works.

  5. lol... jakobs u realise what u said makes no sense... if a diver gets a yellow for diving in the 89th minute and score the winning penalty then why wud he get a yellow...winning the penalty for a dive means the ref didnt see the dive lol therefore he wudnt get a card.....u shud say he wud risk the yellow

  6. ITS TIME TO PUNISH THE REFS FOR WRONG CALLS AND BAN THE PLAYERS FOR SIMULATION

  7. In all honesty, you can't blame the refs for wrongly calling dives. If after the incident it's observed that it was a dive, i say punish the player.

Offside - Linesmen are only as human as the rest of us and are, in most cases, older than the players they're trying to adjudge. With a backline ever trying to set an offside trap or consistently moving, it can be understood why these simple mistakes fly pass them.
It's either they incorrectly call them offside or incorrectly keeps their flag down, it's a tough job.

I agree with most, introducing video technology will lessen the controversy in football and it's good to have for a healthy debate. With video technology, these forums and blog sites probably wouldn't have much to talk about. It'd be like watching the computer play itself in FIFA.

Consistency! Is what we need. Send the linesmen to some boot camp, whipe them into shape, re-evaluate their knowledge on the rules...and probably even re-evaluate the rules themselves. Strict consistent rules as to what's considered a foul, a yellow card, a red card or even a drop ball should be implemented.

  8. i think its becoming such a big issue these days because soooo much money is now riding on these results, and an increasing pressure to get the decisions right has resulted, as it is often the case the big decisions end up becoming game deciding mistakes

  10. yep, that match had 60/1 riding on birmingham winning, and an unfair penalty levelled the game shortly before time. I;d be furious if i put in my 10quid also

  12. Haha i knew that what was what you were going for :P, my bad.

But seriously it's sad, because now if a referee misses a challenge or offense completely..he uses player's reputations to make his decision
